Tigers eliminated from GPAC softball tournament
FREMONT, Neb.—The Dakota Wesleyan University softball team lost two games and were eliminated from the Great Plains Athletic Conference tournament on Saturday. The Tigers lost to Dordt College (3-2) and Midland University (6-2).
In Game 1, Andriana Sprakel went 3-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Stephanie Gabel finished 2-for-3, while Karly Severance finished 1-for-2. Sierra Haage pitched six innings, struck out five batters and allowed five hits.
In Game 2, the Tigers were pitted against Midland University in an elimination game. After Severance and Gabel hit back-to-back home runs, Midland answered with a three-run third inning that gave it a 4-2 lead. The Warriors added two more runs in the next inning to extend their lead to 6-2. Severance went 2-for-3 with an RBI, while Gabel finished 1-for-3 with an RBI. Melysia Ortega finished the game 1-for-3 at the plate. Haage pitched three and one-third innings and struck out two batters, while freshman Alyson VanderPol pitched two and two-third innings.
The Tigers finish the season 15-25.
