Catching up with former area athletes: Rice, Jamestown win NSAA tourney
Jacob Rice and the University of Jamestown men's golf team won the Northern Star Athletic Association Championship on Tuesday at Prairie Links Golf Course in Waverly, Iowa. The Jimmies carded a team score of 1,189 in four rounds to win the six-team tournament for the first time in six seasons.
Rice, a Mitchell native, carded a 3-over 75 on Monday and a 4-over 76 on Tuesday to finish third with a 299 (73, 75, 75, 76).
The Jimmies qualify for the NAIA National Tournament at TPC Deere Run May 15-18 in Silvis, Illinois.
Krause hits personal-best at Mount Marty meet
South Dakota State University freshman distance runner Mary Krause recorded a personal-best time in the women's 1,500-meter run last week in Yankton.
Krause finished the race with a time of 5 minutes, 4.96 seconds to place eighth out of 26 competitors. The former Mitchell Kernel reached her best time by 4.33 seconds.
Krause and the Jackrabbits will compete at the Howard Wood Dakota Relays starting on Friday in Sioux Falls.
Hurd helps Doane take eighth at GPAC Championship
Doane women's golfer Autumn Hurd helped the Tigers earn an eighth place finish at the Great Plains Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday at Quail Run Golf Course in Columbus, Nebraska.
Hurd, a sophomore and Bridgewater native, finished with a four-round score of 378 (96, 98, 89, 95). She finished her sophomore season with an average score of 94.3 with a season low score of 85.
