Ralph Hoffine, 82, of Winner, SD passed away on Monday, October 8th, 2018 at the Winner Regional Long-Term Health Care Center in Winner, SD. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2018 at 2:00PM at the First United Methodist Church in Winner, SD. Burial will follow in the Winner City Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 form 6-7PM at the Mason Funeral Home with a prayer service beginning at 7:00PM.

Ralph Wayne Hoffine was born January 21, 1936 to Merle and Frances (Pech) Hoffine in Winner, SD. His first 7 months were spent in Winner with his parents. The family moved to Hot Springs, SD where they purchased a grocery store. Sister Donna joined the family while in Hot Springs in 1938. Ralph moved back to Winner with his family in 1941 at the age of 5 and the family rented a farm which they purchased in 1943, which would become Ralph's home for the rest of his life. Brother Neil arrived in 1943.

Ralph graduated from Winner High School in 1954 and went on to SDSU for two winters of an Ag short course. After college Ralph worked part-time at a feed store in Winner for two years while farming with his Dad.

Ralph met and married Harriet Sharkey on April 22, 1961. To this union three children were born, Kelly, August 1962; Sheri, December 1963; and Terry, December 1964.

Ralph was a very active 4-H member, his parents were 4-H leaders for many years for Ralph, Donna and Neil's club. He showed cattle at the local fair and at the State Fair. Ralph passed on his love for 4-H to his kids, Sheri and Terry who were active 4-H members and also leaders, Ralph's granddaughters are active in 4-H also. Ralph and Harriet were also 4-H leaders.

Ralph was an avid leathercrafter, well known in the area for his personalized belts, billfolds, plier holsters, and even a purse and a saddle. He made and sold these things for spending money in college.

He worked at the Winner Sale barn from 1962 to 1982 on Fridays. One of his memories of the sale barn was working on Friday in 1965 from 8am to 1am and his pay was $25.50 for a 17-hour day. Ralph was a member of the Tripp County Rural Fire Department, the Tripp County Fair Board, and the Plainview Township Board; He served as treasurer for many years on all these boards.

Ralph joined the National Guards 730th Medical Company of Winner in 1957. His unit was called up during the Berlin Missile crisis in 1961, Ralph was stationed in Fort Riley, KS for training until July 1962 when he returned to the farm to farm full time.

Ralph entered the Winner Long Term Care on April 19, 2018 and passed away on October 8th, 2018 at the age of 82.

He was preceded in death by his father, Merle Hoffine, his son Kelly Hoffine, and a nephew Scott Steffen.

Survivors include his wife Harriet of 57 years, his mother, Frances Hoffine (age 106) of the Winner Long Term Care, his daughter Sheri (Don) Connell of Newport, NE; his son Terry of Hamill, SD. Six granddaughters, Jennifer Connell of Marquette, NE; Sarah Connell of Kearney, NE; Ashley and Samantha Connell of Newport, NE; Baylie and Ashlyn Hoffine of Hamill, SD. Sister Donna Atkins of Marquette, NV; and brother Neil (JoAnn) Hoffine of Sundance, WY.
