Alexandria man ID'd in Sturgis fatal crash
PIEDMONT — A man killed Tuesday in a motorcycle crash near Sturgis has been identified as an Alexandria man.
The South Dakota Department of Public Safety said Loren Todd, 63, was killed after his motorcycle went off the roadway when he failed to negotiate a curve. He was identified as the individual involved by authorities on Friday.
Todd was driving his motorcycle eastbound a half-mile west of Piedmont on Sturgis Road — which is an Interstate 90 service road. Todd lost control of the motorcycle into the north ditch, hit a delineator pole and eventually rolled.
Todd was thrown from the motorcycle and was not wearing a helmet. He was pronounced dead en route to the hospital.
