MAXWELL COLONY — A juvenile was shot Wednesday night when authorities said he was playing with a gun he thought was unloaded.

The bullet went through his left arm and grazed his side, according to the Hutchinson County Sheriff's Office. The juvenile was taken to a Scotland hospital via ambulance and later transported to a Yankton hospital. Authorities said the injuries were not considered serious.

The incident occurred at about 9:56 p.m. at the Maxwell Colony, which is about six miles northeast of Scotland or 30 miles southeast of Parkston.

Authorities with the Hutchinson County Sheriff's Office said the juvenile male was playing with the gun with another juvenile male.
